Civil Litigation Mentorship Program

ARE YOU AN ATTORNEY LOOKING FOR MENTORSHIP AS YOU LAUNCH YOUR LEGAL CAREER?

Do you need professional guidance and mentorship to help your practice grow? Would you like to gain insight into becoming a successful trial attorney? WE HAVE THE ANSWER!

A new mentorship program that matches newer attorneys with experienced trial attorneys in the Sacramento area.

WHO: Mentee attorneys will be attorneys with one year or more of practice experience who are looking for mentorship from an experienced attorney. Mentor attorneys are members of the Sacramento Valley Chapter of ABOTA, a national organization of experienced trial attorneys who exemplify civility and professionalism in the practice of law.

WHAT:  A four-month long mentoring program that pairs newer attorneys with experienced attorneys and judges who are seasoned civil trial attorneys and ABOTA members. Activities for the mentors and mentees could include attending a court appearance, deposition, or trial; attending an MCLE or local Bar association event; or participating in community service or other charitable event.

WHERE:  Mentee attorneys and their assigned mentor attorneys can meet in person, by telephone, or by Zoom. The expectation is to meet at least once per month for a four-month period.

WHEN:  Selection of mentee attorneys and matching with assigned mentors will occur in December 2025. An initial kickoff meeting for mentors and mentees will occur in January 2026 and the program will run through April 2026.

WHY:  The Sacramento Valley Chapter of ABOTA is an organization of attorneys who have each tried at least 7 civil jury trials to verdict. We want to help develop the next generation of litigators. This mentorship program is intended to promote professional growth and learning and to foster networking among Sacramento area attorneys of all ages and areas of practice.

HOW:  By Friday, November 14th, please send an e-mail to ABOTA members Mia Winter, miawinter@hotmail.com and Dan Kohls, dkohls@ hansenkohls.com to express your interest in being matched with a mentor. Please include the word “Mentorship” in the subject line of your e-mail. We will reach out to learn about your interests and areas of practice in order to match you with an appropriate mentor.
